The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) has the responsibilities to enhance academic policy development, to promote quality assurance processes, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, and is responsible for the development and promotion of international affairs of the University.

The role of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) is to provide leadership in achieving the University’s strategic goals, particularly in relation to teaching and learning, including the provision of enriching student experience in the University and the continuing professional development for University academic staff. Fundamental to the role is the development of educational frameworks and policies that support the University’s strategic goals, and which provide faculties and other areas guidance and support in achieving them.


The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) portfolio includes 2 main areas:

i. Supporting and Promoting the Academic Programmes of:

• the various Faculties in the University
• The School of Graduate Studies
• The Graduate School of Management
• The Centre for Foundation Studies for Agricultural Sciences

ii. Enhancing the Academic Support Functions of:

• The Centre for Academic Development
• The Centre for External Education
• The Academic Division
• The International Office
• The University Agricultural Park

Key responsibilities of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) include:

• direct management of day-to-day operations of core education activities, including integration of faculty planning with University-wide planning, resource management and quality assurance
• educational planning and policy, including quality assurance of education in relation to undergraduate and postgraduate education and scholarship, and management and development of entry policy
• management of University entry
• promotion of quality assurance processes and compliance with ISO requirements
• internal communications and dissemination of information which is relevant to the ongoing management of educational issues and policies
• ongoing identification of academic issues to be considered by the University Management
• management of university curriculum review processes
• management of academic promotions
• management of international affairs
• preparation of policy submissions to the Government and other national agencies
